Getting it Together
Poetry for a Poet
Finding Inspiration
Recently I have been back and forth between writing styles, short stories or poems. Honestly speaking I feel as though I have struggled with such a dilemma since the moment my mother and father taught me how to pick up a wooden pencil. Writing has always been a comfort of mine, when the words come out that is... For a moment all creativity that had been stored in my right-brained mind had melted into the darkness my subconsciousness had become. For the past eight months I have received very little drive to write but recently that has not been the case, I guess that was why I decided to write this blog. Even though no one will find this blog in the depths that is the Internet, one would say the World Wide Web holds in it a depth comparable to the Mariana Trench. Which fun fact, the Mariana Trench has a maximum known depth of about 11,000 Meters (36,000 Feet)! Enough of the unknown to make your skin crawl and have you thinking, what is the ocean really hiding at such depths? Honestly if I could be real a second, the unknown terrifies me. Truly I am paralyzed in the face of fear, at the boarder between what I can control and what I can not. My mind travels back to my middle school days of experimentation and the separation of dependent, independent and controlled variables. My brain is like this, a vast space full of memories and intertwined with musical lyrics, food ideas, lines for character dialogue and random trivia. So is the mind of a depressed extroverted Hispanic Latina in the US of A.
Poetry: Food for the Soul
I adore poetry, as a whole I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a "bad" poem. Prose is simply prose, a way to reaffirm an idea or even the essence to create a new one. Call me insane but words are a comfort to my foolish mind. Were there a way to convey such complexities as love or fear as a simple string of sounds and syllables that join to make the speech we know today. The English language all be it difficult is elevated when words are used to describe beautiful, ugly and even unspeakable things. However; what is is a poem?
Soul, the very ghostly aura that surrounds our very being exists in poetry. Now I know what you're thinking, I read Shakespeare in high school and hated every moment of it. BUT! What if I told you even rappers are Poets, and I mean old school guys like Bigge, 2Pac, Ice Cube and Eminem. The way they string lyrics without a care, the way they flow and rhyme and move through the air feed my very soul. Music is for happy moments, for painful moments, for love, for anger, for the end of the world. SO until the end of the world I will be cranking out poetry in my little workshop! :) Tally-ho!!!
